Not necessarily, just in general.

Will Marriott be willing to  request from a hotel, to open up award space for  gold members, when there are standard rooms available for cash ? Am I better off calling the hotel directly ?

I know there is a difference between Marriott hotel categories and Ritz hotel tiers. Can the Marriott CC certs (either cat. 4 or 5) be used on any RC tiers?

Keep in mind that it's usually a pretty full night when no award space is available. They have little incentive to accommodate.

In the end I just reserved the next level room, at a cost of about $75 for the upgrade ( which is a joke, bec. the only diff. bet. them is a few feet ).
When I got to the hotel, I asked if there were any standard rooms available, and they said there was one room left, which they have to us, and saved my money.

Goo for you. I guess it's a YMMV on hotel level.

Marriot does allow transferring points to another member. Not sure about fees, if any.

Is it better to book the Renaissance Hotel in Tel aviv for 35k points per night or $225? Trying to figure out the value of Marriott points. Thanks

imho, you can get more value from 35k than $225

Anyone know of way to search for Marriot Hotels by region like on Starwoods website? Trying to figure out options around Big Sur...
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.
