Obtaining an E-Z Pass, without owning a vehicle

I faxed a paper application Friday afternoon and just left the fields blank.

I went into the office in Nanuet to get a 3rd tag for myself on my father's account and they asked for a license I just said it's for rental cars. Then they just warned me something to the affect that I can't dispute a toll of I'm using it for car rentals. That was it.

It does happen sometimes that they dont read your ezpass tag i had it recently on a car that was not registered with the ezpass account and all i needed to do was add it to the account and they removed the fine but with a rental the rental company will still charge you the toll, fine, and an additional fee

That's exactly what they told me.

I have used EZPass for many years. The only time I recall the tag not being read was when I already had it for a few years and the battery started to die. If you mount it in the recommended location on the vehicle, it will in all likelihood be read properly and you will not be charged by the rental car company. I would recommend against providing EZPass will the license plate numbers of cars you are using temporarily; if the person driving it right before or right after you crosses a toll without paying, your account may be charged if they are not precise enough in matching up the violation to when you registered and unregistered the plate to your account.

I called up their service center a few days ago; they told me to make up a license plate and vehicle combination, and the remove it from the account once set up. Just got my tags in the mail today.

ironically, yesterday I happened upon this thread for the first time, later when I opened my mail, there was a letter from a rental company that I missed a tollbooth. toll was for $1 they are charging me $1 plus $13 fee, is there a way to fight this?

A couple of weeks ago I used a one way rental from the LGA , paid the tolls in cash but still got charged $18 from Avis.

I disputed the charge... And got the credit.

You can add the ezpass account to the rental license plate #.

Just remember to remove it when your done.

I don't know the "easiest" way. There are many agencies you can sign up with. Generally, you want to choose the agency that will provide the best discount for the tolls you cross the most. You don't necessarily need to sign up with an agency in your area. Each agency may offer more than one method of signing up, such as online, by mail, by fax or in person.

Yes you can get at any rest stop on the parkway and u buy it with $25 credit and then you can add a credit card to it to keep upping it.

Landing in JFK BEH, renting from Thrifty, driving to NYC/SI,Lakewood. Where can I pick up an ezpass?
