Would the united card cover an accident if I didn't make the original reservation on it, but paid with it at the end?

(The rep made sound like can switch cards in middle for better coverage...)

With Amex see below

You always put the rental on the vard with the best protection (usually a chase sapphire/united) and if you don't have an accident, you can switch to the end to whatever card you want.

FYI,
Last year in LA my bro-in-law rented a mini van using only a debit card. He got into an accident where he was at fault.
His own auto insurance Geico, in NY was very nice to him and helpful. They covered everything (ok so his premiums will prob go up), and since it was out of state they told him he didn't even have to pay his deductible!!
Total damage to the rental and the other car was ~$18,000 that Geico paid out. He rented from Alamo.

This post is just for an FYI :)
Happy mischief night!!!

If that is true, and there is no deductible out of state.... That is a good deal

I have an interesting dilemna on my hands right now. Any help would be appreciated.
I rented a car via priceline using a BoA Visa card.
Then, when I got to the rental desk, I purchased liability insurance using a Visa Gift Card.
I ended up getting into an accident.
Now, Im being told that since the purchase of the insurance was not on a Visa card that has the Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver Benefit, I am not eligible.
In other words: although I rented the car on an eligible card, since I did not put ALL related expenses onto an eligible card - Im not covered.
I am having a hard time taking that since I didnt even have to buy liability if I chose not to... so just becuase I chose to buy liability not on an eligible card that makes me not eligible...?

1) I didn't. I merely purchased liability using a gift card.
2) I am really ignorant in this area.
3) Your question is not helpful:)

you could have just said that you were ignorant. I was wondering if there was a separate reason as to why it had been purchased on a gift card. As for visa I believe that is their policy, amex I believe is the only one not like that.

I hear your argument. Who is giving you this information, I would ask where it says this. Also how can they charge for extra insurance which won't cover if the charge went through then you should have the coverage

Ill respond backwards:
1) I bought liability. That covers the other car... Im dealing right now with the damage to the rental car.
2) It says in T&C that "initial and completed rental charges must be on eligible card etc. My argument, however, is that my choice to buy liability is not a rental charge. I could have not bought it altogether...
3) At this point its the lowest level folks that Im talking with

I rented a car from hertz over a year ago and skidded into the guard rail and and got a few small dents and scratches. When I returned the car they didn't mention Anything about it. Now I just received a bill in the mail for 1750 from hertz ( 1000 for damages and 750 loss of use). The credit card I used to rent told me they won't cover unless it's within 60 days. Is hertz legally allowed to come after me this long after the incident? Thanks for any advice

I always thought once it's returned it's over. Unless it was to one of the new airport locations that have cameras?

From my understanding once the car was returned you're no longer responsible, you may end up on the dnr from this whole story but I don't see how they can legally charge you for it.

Sounds pretty sketchy on their part. At the same time, I doubt SOL has expired, and if they depose you, you're gonna admit it.
