Hey,

I have CO Chase Plus card opened and I got a mail offer to open another one (the same card that I had already). Being that I'm doing well in their Mile-a-Thon, I decided to apply.

I get a letter today saying that they noticed that I already have a card open with Continental and that I should call them to clarify why I need another.

Has this ever happened to you? Should I have canceled the first one before I applied?

Call, write or both?

What should I argue?

or better off waiting another month or 2 and applying again?
Is a month or 2 all you need to wait? I know that the inquiries stay on the report for two years (and obviously two years is a long time to wait before opening up a new card, but two months seems too soon to reapply?)
I'm just asking because im in the same boat and wanna know when i can start applying again... based on other peoples experiences

I'd say give it at least six months. Inquiries stay on for two years, but they might look for recent ones in the past x months.

Sure, just make phone calls and they should be willing to close the CO card and approve the UA card.

Approved!!!! They didn't even make me close the CO card. They were wondering why in the world I had 4 Citibank and 4 Amex requests in last few months. I just told them they were great mileage offers BLAH BLAH BLAH and I make all my payments on time BLAH BLAH BLAH and I really love Chase BLAH BLAH BLAH........and she said she would put in recommendation for approval.

Thanks Dan once again.

Beautiful job, Eli. If only we had a wiki I'd say we have a page with all issuers (I'm currently looking for Barclay's Biz reconsideration...)
