points can be used for the AF.

Statement credits: If you have the exact number of points or more required to wipe away a charge, you can wipe away the entire charge.  If you have fewer than the exact number of points, you can only redeem in 2500 point/$25 increments.

Example: If you have an $87 charge, and 9000 points, you can wipe away the entire $87 charge.  If, however, you only have 8000 points, you can only wipe away $75 worth of the $87 charge (2500 point/$25 increments x 3).

Starting at 2,500 if you have an old card.
Didn't that change last month?

What do you gain by downgrading, why shouldn't I just close it

It seems it is harder for them to see that you once had the card if you downgrade it rather than close it.

I remember that being the reid a while back but can't seem to find it...you know where that was discussed?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Do they usually catch it or only sometimes?

Have not seen any recent reports.  Bank then it was a rarity.

I just had it that they mentioned I had the arrival + and recently converted it. Although I just had to cancel the no fee card and got accepted right after that.
Therefore  from my experience I say just cancel and don't bother with the downgrade.

I have the non-plus version and am planning on cancelling. I 1st wanna get rid of my remaining point balance which is not an exact increment of 2500 points. Can I redeem all my points toward a travel purchase that is larger than the redemption value, but not an increment of $25?

Yes
My $200 transaction has now posted. When I try to redeem my less just less than 5000 points, my only choice is $25, not the full point balance. (non-plus Arrival)

So is it still 2,500 for the minimum redemption or has it been changed to 10,000 as per the terms? This stinks, I was hoping to use it for small purchases like domestic taxes ($5.60), ubers, etc. What's the best way to cash it out?
