points can be used for the AF.

Statement credits: If you have the exact number of points or more required to wipe away a charge, you can wipe away the entire charge.  If you have fewer than the exact number of points, you can only redeem in 2500 point/$25 increments.

Example: If you have an $87 charge, and 9000 points, you can wipe away the entire $87 charge.  If, however, you only have 8000 points, you can only wipe away $75 worth of the $87 charge (2500 point/$25 increments x 3).

You guys think it's smart for me to put my AZ flight and car rental purchases on this card? FYI, I've already used my intro bonus points.  It'll be under $450 total for sure for my wife and me.  We already have free hotel stays in Scottsdale and I have family in PHX so that really is all we will be spending on this card.  I was thinking that if I just put the said travel expenses on this card, I could buy OVs like crazy (about 45 OVs) within the 90 day time frame to claim rewards and effectively pay only half the price. ie. 45 OVs at $504.95 =  $22,722.75 * 2ppd = 45,446 points;  Total cost $4.95 * 45 = $222.75; $450-$222.75 =  $227.25 saved.  The question is: Is it worth my time?  Thoughts?

You don't have an old Amex Blue? Your same $22,722.75 will net your $1136.13 in statement credit. Subtract the same $222.75 in fees and your net is $913.38, which is four times better. In fact, if you just want to earn enough to offset the trip, you only need to buy 23 OV within 90 days. Or you could buy Amex gift cards at a favorable rate... But to directly answer your question, I don't think the 45 OV are worth the time. You can use the spending capacity in more lucrative ways.

for starters capital one is a no no on DDF ;) (due to credit pull from all 3 credit bureaus)

Good point.

Sorry for nitpicking, but I think the old Blue Cash gives 5% not 6% (like the new BC Preferred).

It is 5%.

$22,722.75 * .05 = $1136.1375
$22,722.75 * .06 = $1363.365

Yes, the calculation looks correct, but you wrote four times better, its really only three times better since the arrival gives 2% (really 2.2%...)

I calculated by dividing the net profit through each method. Using the old Blue nets $913.38 profit, while the Arrival+ nets $222.75. Dividing the two yields a 4.1 ratio favorable to the old Blue.

The reason you can't just divide the earning percentages (5/2.2) is because most of the profit is earned on the marginal increase in percent back.

Now watch me be totally wrong on the math :)

No, I don't have an Amex Blue.  :-\  What is it's full brand name, so I could apply for it?  Still new to the game.  Soooo much info out there!  Anything else that you would recommend that's comparable to the Amex Blue?

There are other 5% cards, but AFAIK none are unlimited in the drugstore category like the old Blue.

Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Yup, you may have luck converting an existing amex card or you might have to open a new one
