Maybe top off your BA account with some UR/MR?

Yeah. But at this point in time they are worth significantly mire than BA miles.

Can i book a flight with an american credit card on the german site? The flydeal category is not showing up on the american site so the price jumps from 1420 to 1577. Any way to make it appear?

I see no availability from JFK-TLV on Air Berlin with Avios, but I do see JFK-TXL & TXL-TLV. I understand they may be able to check the luggage straight through, and maybe not. But how about excess luggage? If I pay for an additional suitcase, will I pay twice? From what I see, it's about 130eu for a second suitcase in economy. Anyone have any experience with this?

Why wouldn't they be able to check it straight through? Call them up and it will book on one ticket.

BA is not great at piecing those things together online.
Therefore you should call them to book it for you on one ticket. Mention that you were not able to do it online and they most likely waive the phone fee.

Ymmv as far as getting them to waive the phone fee.
They told me once "it is bookable online - you just have to do it as two separate tickets"
There is savings though because if they make it for you as one ticket it'll be less taxes.

Wouldn't know if you're doing something wrong but July can be challenging.

Probably too early. They really cut back on releasing seats. J is nearly impossible more than a 2 weeks out. Y maybe 8 weeks out.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

"LESS IS MORE" It is the cumulative effect that kills deals!!! How many times do I have to say this?  >:(

Try Qatar airways' website.
