Good enough for King Solomon is good enough for me...
Chabad's problem with eruvs is more about how and where they're implemented. Making one in your backyard is no issue of course.
The concern is that a city wide eruv would cause people to become lax in the laws of Shabbos even when they're somewhere without an eruv.

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

I was told that due to this concern Rav Teitz ZTL implemented that in Elizabeth the eruv gets taken down for at least one week out of the year.

That is great! I always felt that way...
Same.

TLDR excerpt:
Quote from: Michael Crichton
Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray’s case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the “wet streets cause rain” stories. Paper’s full of them.

In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know. That is the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect.

I’d point out it does not operate in other arenas of life. In ordinary life, if somebody consistently exaggerates or lies to you, you soon discount everything they say. In court, there is the legal doctrine of falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus, which means untruthful in one part, untruthful in all. But when it comes to the media, we believe against evidence that it is probably worth our time to read other parts of the paper. When, in fact, it almost certainly isn’t. The only possible explanation for our behavior is amnesia.

Interesting. I believe the Rebbe wanted a crown heights eruv, but that people shouldn't know that it was there.

That's what I figured, but that doesn't address his issue

Well practically speaking, the only time I've carried something on Shabbos in my lifetime was in Venice.

Practically speaking, I assume Chabad still has meseches eruvin in their shas, and don't skip those parts in shulchan aruch harav. You don't disavow the whole concept of eruv, and therefore, I would think Chabad is equally targeted (for lack of a better word) by this comment.
To funny. The gimmicks one comes up with is mind boggling.  :)

Pretty sure this was about Manhattan, not Crown Heights.

This is part of the issue. The other issues are
1- 600,000 people and
2 - the Rambam who paskens that there needs to be a pole every 10 Amos.

HAVE YOU ALL LOST YOUR MIND? Kosher switch? This is nothing but a scam, sham, trick, loophole or a hundred other things. One thing it is not is "kosher". This is not some CC T&C's you are trying to justify. Who do you think you are fooling here? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your creator? Good luck with that one.
