Whats "street hustling" anyway? He was pimping, gambling etc. all of these are definitely taxable. (that might have been a main consideration) Only panhandling is "begging". .. (?)-
I hope our shnorrers are not st hustling, gambling and pimping- thats what the isshur is for..

The main point here is continuity and regularity, I think. What does that say for our shnorers?

How are they aggregating the pimping with the gambling and calling it all one trade or business or street hustling? If I am a lawyer and then I go gambling in Vegas on vacation, is it all one trade or business of "income producing"?

It's a bit of a funny opinion. Part of it probably has to do with there being no documentation for anything. Probably part of it also is that I'm guessing IRS did allow him the EITC, and the tax court doesn't believe that he earned precisely the correct amount for the most EITC (I trust he was smart enough to claim that amount, but I didn't figure out if it is), and figures that they may as well nail him for the self employment taxes.

Shachris today- guy comes soliciting, I give a quarter. He comes back 10 seconds later, and takes another quarter off my talis bag.  I make hand motions (I'm in middle of birchas kriyas shma) and he walks on.  LOL. These guys rock.

Seriously, I love giving to good organizations, and really don't like giving the collectors.  Why can't we abolish the practice of collecting in shul and have everyone go through organizations?  Occasional appeals are fine, but to collect on a weekly, or daily basis? There has to be a better system.  These guys end up with no incentive to try to find work!

Organizations should give these guys a fixed amount per week and reevaluate their need periodically (monthly?), and they should require that these guys at least attempt to earn money from other sources.

Y don't u just delete the psikim in the Torah tht tell us to give tzedukah.
And rewrite it, tht one should only give for an organized institution.
If there's any body out there thts working and marrying off his 7th kid and he's in debt over his head let him jump off a roof, atleast ull spare the headache of being annoyed of the so many shnureres

Who pays the processing fees? Does it come out of the schnorrer's cut or does the organization get even less?

If I saw a shnorrer with a Centro (nebach) Id give him a donation...

Missing the point.  People who've come upon hard times and have debt over their head should go from shul to shul, house to house, whatever.  I'm talking about the career shnorers.  It's not about the headache, its about feeling that I'm doing more harm than good by giving these guys. 

Those who really need regular assistance (due disability, etc.) should receive it from organizations (i.e. they shouldn't have to go around collecting full-time).  But it seems that some just start off their career by walking into a shul and sticking their hand out.  It works, so they continue.  We all know or have seen people who appear physically and mentally healthy who have been collecting for over 10 years.  There seems to be a problem.
