It's far worse for me.
There's a whole class of people that believe because I do this for a living and they opened up credit cards using my links that I owe it to them to give them an answer at their beck and call.

Never mind that they would've opened up those cards regardless or may not have even known about the benefits if not for DD.  It's not that it's not appreciated (of course it is, this is my livelihood), it's that I get 1,000+ such communications on a daily basis and many of them wind up being angry at me for not helping.
As it is I'm at a computer for 15-18 hours a day, if I actually responded to everyone personally I wouldn't even be able to sleep for a few hours...

Never mind that every 4th cousin and their roommate is angry for not telling them about xyz deal.

C'est la vie I suppose.

Do you ever reply to any of these people?

Um how many people do you hate?

I've never been to a DO. The question was for those who have. I guess the answer is no. Still, has it ever been anyone you know? Like a co-worker or neighbor (or chavrusah)?

My one and only time I emailed you months ago I got a reply pretty quick.

I'm not saying I don't reply to anyone.
If it's something I can answer easily I probably will.

But for anything too complicated and for round-the-world award help...
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

So back to my question...
How do all these people that ask (annoy) you for your help know your a ddfer/know your stuff? Do you publicize it?
Did you help them once and now they think youre their personal helper with these matters?

When I asked if you reply to 'these' people I meant the ones asking ridiculous questions they shouldn't be asking you.
Ever give them a piece of your mind?

Only once when they really asked for it :)

Like mshugener said, they don't necessarily know that I am on the forums, or that these forums exist, but they know that I have helped them with credit card/miles oriented stuff and don't stop coming back.

I am honestly all for helping people, but I also need to help myself a bit ya know. I was just thinking about my past few weeks, it is safe to say that on average one hour of my day goes to these kinds of questions. And to add insult to injury, some of these guys call for encouragement: "Can I call again after calling today? Are you sure? What do I tell them?"

Wow. Love this thread. All very good points. I am with Twin on this. I happen to love to explain and help ppl. I feel that if i know something that can help someone and one doesn't, why not help. But i sometimes feel it gets out of hand and ppl just don't like to think anymore. Ppl (and including me sometimes) want everything spoon fee to them.

Daniel, you have a very hard job, and i honestly feel bad sometimes for you. My family has been doing business this way for 25 yrs and customers feel that if they buy by you, you owe them something. That you have to give them more. It gets to much sometimes. Gotta be mentchliecht to others, otherwise you get upset at things that you have no right to
If you have any questions please search and then ask. PM me for detailed help.

  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.
