Meeting Spending thresholds in Israel
« on: April 07, 2013, 03:23:18 PM »
Hi guys I'm new to the game and am just starting out with the spg consumer and biz cards.
heres the problem: I live in Israel, meaning no VR, Amazon gift cards and stuff like that sold here.
so how do you spend 10k dollars in Israel without actually spending 10k?
also I prefer not to get hit with too much foreign exchange fees.

I understand this issue may have been addressed already so a thanks to anyone that can point me to a relevant thread.

Use cards with no foreign transaction fees for your regular spending and also for your utility bills. Amazon payments is also good for 1k a month.

Don't use AMEX for AP.

I know this is not going to help you now, but always try to have a game plan before you apply, so don't have to be in this situation.

Mixed with a lot of regular spending?

If it's only this, there is an F/R waiting to happen.

As I said before, it's not guaranteed, but very likely to happen and just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it won't happen to others.

He's not the only one that didn't have an f/r. I know of a few others.

Most probably not. There are easier ways I'm sure. Buy gift cards and use them later.

have s/o based in U.S.A. Charge your card and you pay the fees you'll avoid forex fees and the 15k Starwood points are worth the fees. If you don't know any business owner that'll do it for you perhaps you can get a friend to sign up for something like "Square" and have him do it for you(and maybe do the same for him)(never charge your own credit card they will automatically shut down all your accounts and ban you for many years)
