Looks like people had success with the SPG.

However from the answer they gave me it sound that it does not have to do with card aligbilaty, they say this offer is for new applications only. Though maybe the system is hard wired to only let specific cards to convert.

When does the 6500 start accumulating, when your card is converted or all spending in the current statement?

I had my personal SPG (which was opened in July converted via sm effective Jan 1). The information that came with the card clearly shows the 2 tier bonus levels.
