I've sent a few on a lift once. They worked.

Worth the shlep? Depends.

I did it many years ago.
It made the difference of sleeping or not sleeping. A real life saver.

Had to buy an inverter in israel, cost me about $75 ran scary hot but it worked for the hot months
Would do it again if I had to be without ac otherwise

If you have any questions please search and then ask. PM me for detailed help.

It would almost be worth buying a cheap one here and selling it for over double the price there, if not for the fact that it's a shlep to bring...

what you need is a step down transformer. Im not sure how many watts your ac uses. I think you can figure it out by looking at the specs I once heard that amps times volts = watts for example if it sais 18v and 3a it means its 54 watts (i took that off my laptop charger)
if you cant figure it out the  inverter should be at least 1000 watts ii doesn't hurt to get one that bigger then u need
what i did is google 110 to 220 power inverter this is what i found http://www.voltage-converter-transformers.com/product_info.php?category_id=10016462&products_id=10060397
when I was in Israel my roommate brought one in in his carryon luggage its not very big but it weighs a lot
