So the consensus for the best option over shabbos seems to be the holiday inn express south.
Has anyone stayed in town at any of the hotels that are shabbos friendly?
W, waldorf, ic, andaz, hyatt Regency, Marriot?
I stayed at Regency during the week, andaz on shabbos.
The Andaz wasn't particularly good for shabbos but it is in the eruv and a short walk from Portuguese Shul and is pretty walkable to vondelpark and the rest of city center. We had engineering disable motion sensors in the room, and they provided us shabbos timers for the lamps. There's an exit via the stairs from the rooms without automatic doors, but the stairs are locked going up, so you'd need someone to walk up with you or take you in the elevator. There is a manual door near the restaurant into the hotel. There are also TVs showing about the art going 24/7 so it didn't necessarily provide the best environment. It had a club feeling about it.
The Regency seemed like it would have been easier for shabbos, but it's out of the eruv, and while it's a it closer to the Portuguese Shul, is further from much of city center and there not much around. We had a baby so eruv was needed. The staff at the Regency are amazing and it's pretty relaxed and no-frills but the hotel is new and clean.
