If the tulip gardens are open definitely go there.

There's also the flower market.

Hacarmel isn't far from the city center (maybe 10 min)

They can also rent bikes to get around. Very enjoyable
The gardens aren't opened yet.
Biking is not an option. IYKYK.
What is the name of the flower market?

What is the recommended amount of time to spend at the Portuguese Synagogue? Jewish Museum?

Bloemenmarket
Its nice, very touristy, lots of souveniers, etc. Don't need more than 15 min IMHO

If you want to go through the entire thing, it can take a while. Going through most of the Synagogue took us about 2 hours. IIRC there was still  more to see but they were already closing. We did not have time for the Museum or the other few attractions that are included in the ticket. They're not open very late so they should try to do this earlier on. The Tulip Market also closes earlyish for that matter. I guess try to schedule the attractions during the earlier part of their stopover and food later...
I did not know that there was a free ferry.
Thank you for sharing.
Would the ferry be a good substitute for a canal cruise?
What is the frequency of the free ferry?
I messaged the chabad about MAchne Yehuda. I am waiting for a response.
The ferry is just that, a ferry  :D .
Just to get you from one side of the canal to the other. Entire ride takes about 5 min, maybe even less. Its a smaller verison of the Staten Island ferry, if youre familiar with that. But obviously much nicer as all transportation in Europe. ;)  Its very often, every few minutes theres another one going and coming. (You can probably see the official schedule on google maps directions.) Personally, I really enjoyed the views and swing on the Adam tower and would recommend not to miss it.

I cannot compare because i did not do a canal cruise. WOuld have been boring for me. We did rent our own little motorized boat, though and had fun chilling around the canals ourselves. There was a certain element of adventure thats not present in the canal cruises which spoke to me, however, I am not sure if they operate in the winter and it might not even be enjoyable if the weather doesnt cooperate.

Hope all this helps!

Looking at a flight to TLV with a 10-hour stopover in AMS.  Will we be able to leave the airport to see the city with unvaccinated children ranging in age from 6 to 15?

Read my TR?
I wouldn't say the canal ride is a must do. Would only be cool if you can do something private.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I would say considering it's there is the first Monday in March, I'd wager that there wont be anyone else on the Pure Boats Tour.

I read your TR. The Garden is closed and art museums aren't of interest.

For now this is what the itinerary looks like.

07:50 AM AMS Arrival
09:30 AM Ets Chaim Arrival
11:00 AM Brunch- Mouwes or Rimon- Which one is better?
12:00 PM Pure Boat Canal Tour
01:15 PM Anne Frank House
02:45 PM Portuguese Synagogue
05:00 PM Walking Tour
07:00 PM Schipol Arrival
08:55 PM Departure
Any input?

I did that this past Aug (had a day stopover in amsterdam with unvaccinated kids, KLM- JFK to TLV).
We walked around the city to see the canals, went on the ferry back and forth, then did the tour of the old shul -
FYI- they dont let you bring in a wheely carry on to the shul - so someone of our group had to stay outside the whole time with it...very annoying).

it was interesting for all of us (parents + kids age 23-7 year).  probably spent close to 2 hours- we did not go to any of the other sites included in the ticket.

WE then took a train out the zaans shansz- area with windmills and animals- very pretty and you can see a workshop how wooden shoes are made, how cheese is made.
All in all a great day- and enough time for all this.

Thanks. How about the Residence Inn Amsterdam Houthavens? Would that be a good option?

It will connect you to another network who partners with T-mobile.

Just inquire by your operator what the deal is with roaming. Maybe it's worth paying for some travel pack.

T-Mobile claims it'll work however I see mixed info online. Some claim it won't work even if TMobile says it will. Wondering if anyone has any personal experience?
