Its definitely nice, but just not drop dead gorgeous. I had a decent rib eye there, and the service was nice too.. Attentive waiters etc.. Would have a business meeting there.

Better late than never -- I've since been to H'Baron twice -- both times I found it to be very nice, with non-Kosher folk eating with us, we all had a very nice meal with some nice wine.  Service (the owner/manager - young guy) was nice and attentive, and the manager is a nice guy.  Realized I never shared feedback with the forum - oops...

We went in the summer and they seemed a bit overwhelmed and understaffed-it took about 40 minutes to get a table-so plan ahead if you are there in the summer- and they do not take reservations-but the service (once we were seated) was fabulous and the steak and lamb duo (me and the grilled salmon (wife) was one of the best we have had abroad!!

Newly purchased Museumkaart for sale. We just returned from Amsterdam, and spent $150 USD on two cards that give free admission, as well as shorter lines, in almost all the museums in Amsterdam and nearby cities. Read more about it below

http://www.amsterdamtips.com/tips/museum-kaart-amsterdam.php

Cards are valid for another 11+ months, and are simply scanned at each museum and tickets are issued for free.

Asking $120 OBO for two cards. After Anne Frank, Rijksmuseum, and Jewish Historical Museum (including Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue), you're already ahead if the game, and remaining museums visited are totally free (Rembrandt, Maritime Museum, Van Gogh, canal houses, etc)

We'll worth it....PM for more details or to discuss

Via DDFB:

Dannie Klompsma: I am a Dutchman, currently living in Passaic, New Jersey.
Please find information below:
1. Minyonim in Amsterdam and Amstelveen (Amstelveen is a suburb of Amsterdam, many Jews live there)
The website http://www.chabadamsterdamcenter.com offers a fairly complete overview of all shuls (also kosher places) inAmsterdam.
I don't know where you will stay in Amsterdam.
The best opportunities are
a. in the southern part of the city center of Amsterdam (called Amsterdam Zuid),
b. a newer part of Amsterdam situated more south from Amsterdam Zuid, called Buitenveldert.
Buitenveldert is actually the city part that has the strongest frum presence. In Buitenveldert there is a Holiday Inn Express owned by a frum guy; his staff also knows what's going on and they serve a kosher breakfast.
Holiday Inn Express AmsterdamAddress: Zwaansvliet 20, 1081 AP Amsterdam, Netherlands Phone:+31 20 820 3040
c. Amstelveen.

Important!!!
Amsterdam is not dangerous for an observant Jew to walk around with a yarmulke. In the western part of the city ofAmsterdam (called Amsterdam West) is a bigger concentration of Muslims and of a result it is more likely to get some remarks....
Nevertheless you will see that safety measures near shuls are very visible and stringent. In front of virtually any shul you'll see military police and shomrim.
That's why it is important to make yourself known on forehand (by calling them) and take ID with you.
So do yourself a favor and announce your coming through the telephone numbers that are mentioned on the websites.
There is an eruv in Amsterdam, although not everybody holds by it.
The shuls that really have daily minyonim are:
- Kehillas Yaacov (of renowned Dutch rabbi/dayan Raphael Evers, send him my regards if you go there):

Do you know which train to take to the Portuguese shul?

I'm not sure which is the portugeese shul, I had a very short stopover (like 3 hours or less) and went to the only Shul that has a (men's) Mikva. I took a bus and than a tram it was around an half an hour from airport. I think its the closest one by public transportation.

Just got back from 12 hr stopover, here's a few things I believe r important.

Worth to get unlimited pass for the metro for 15€.

EVERYTHING is closed till 9 am. Besides for the metro.

The line at Anne Frank museum started at 8:15 am. By 9, it was crazy long already.

Kosher restaurants and many other places only take local credit/debit cards. So have some cash.

The boat tours are for 1 hour. Nice way to relax around the city.

I heard from a local Jew, and on this forum that they eat Herring (harring) from the kiosks.

Very nice people at the pizza shop.

Glad you made the most of a short stopover!

My thoughts on the points you made:
Should have bought Anne Frank tickets in advance online - that way you skip the line. ;D
My CC wasn't turned down in any store I went to, so I guess we had different experiences with that.

I checked online, and they wouldn't let me book in advance at Anne frank.

At the kosher pizza my cc was declined, and they said that no kosher places accept.
As well as in the bar in the city center they didn't accept cc

Perhaps your day was sold out (gotta book well in advance), but one can definitely buy tickets online.

OMG I'M SORRY! You're right about the CC at the Kosher restaurants. Pizza & Co. was very cheap so giving him cash wasn't difficult, but HaCarmel wouldn't take CC either and made me run around looking for an ATM. Good point, sorry my memory was off there.

H'Baron, which is around the corner (50 steps) from the Pizza store takes normal/foreign credit cards.  But that said, while it is the nicest place in Amsterdam, it's also a bit pricey.  Pizza and S' Meijer (sandwich shop in city) do not take foreign CC - only local ones with a PIN.
