there are my notes from this past summer (notes that i brought with me), stayed at the pulitzer
- train to central station for Euro 3.80, takes 20 mins. Don't buy the comfort class ticket, buy n single ticket with 'NS only' Avoid the trains labeled FYRA
taxis around 40e
Tram 13 and 17 brings you as well from the Central Station to the Pulitzer (Stop Westermarkt, third stop from the station)
If you see a TCA cab, take that one. The driver will speak good English and not cheat you.
- When you arrive make your way to the ‘Arrivals 2’ area. Over there is a store called ‘Holland tourist information’ there you can buy train tickets to Amsterdam central and a 48hr pass
-If you've got a canal view, ask for a room on the Keizersgracht side of the hotel rather than the Prinsengracht. It is much quieter on that side. If you end up on the Prinsengracht side if you get a room below the 5th floor I find can be a bit noisy up to about 11 o'clock in the evening. The rooms are also more "interesting" on the Keizersgracht side - that is where all the multi-level rooms etc are. On the Prinsengracht side they tend to be fairly "regular" rooms
-politely ask for one of the suites on the 4rth or 5th floor
- anne frank house 9am-10pm 8.5e. block or two away from hotel. In summer, you may have to wait an hour or more to get in. To avoid lines, get there as early as possible or the evening.(early evening)

volendam
typical village centre with its old houses, the bustling harbour area and fishermen's town atmosphere. Just walking around the old centre will quickly make you get the vibe.

Have your picture taken, dressed in an original Volendam costume. It's a popular thing to do and, although not very authentic, it does provide a fun souvenir. There are a few places that offer this service, all in the harbour: Foto de Boer, Haven 82, [6]. edit Foto Zwarthoed, Haven 12, [7]. edit Fotoshop Volendam, Haven 102
