A few yrs back, I had a 14 hr lay over.  I was able to hit up a majority of the places you want to see...but you gotta rush a little bit, get a good map and don't bother with the falafel store (if it's still open).  Other than the layover I spent 4 days in AMS a year or 2 later, the falafel place took more than 30 min to make a falafel and we all left starving!

+1. You can drink a cold Heineken anywhere in the world :). If you don't have a lot of time than a must are the Anne Frank Museum, the old Snoge (Portuguese synagogue) and a canal boat tour. All pretty close to each other.

Sandwich shop Sal. Meijer is delicious.

(And of course a quick herring or two in the city!)
what are the prerequisites for the herring thing? since it's salted wich makes things complicated, especially with the whole pickle thing there, what is the way to know what you can and can't eat? or do people rely on heters, like the assumption that they have special knives for these things, or that due to the sheer amount of fish cut, even if they didn't have special knives it's nisbatel in the first few?...

hitting up Amsterdam, now, in the delta lounge... there are a couple chareidei woman on this flight too, in the lounge..
my plans are, first anne frank, then portugese synagoge lunch at sal meijer and then the Heineken museum and back to the airport. i hope to have time for it all..
is there lockers in the airport to leave my hand-luggage anywhere? or do i need to schlep it with me?
also any have any reccomended tram apps? and direction info?

I used an app called metro

I also would sub out the Heineken experience for something else, say the Rijksmuseum or a canal boat ride

they've been renovating for a while now, but there is a part that's open with the 'masterpieces'

it does not spam, there might be better, but this is what ive been using for over 10 years now (from my palm pilot days)

Going with 5 kids. I have this 13 hr stopover. Does anyone know if I have to take my luggage out in Amsterdam, or will I be able to check it through all the way to Israel?
Also I have been reading about the restaurants, does anyone know what the hechsherim are?
Thanks.
I am going with 3 small children as well -  When are you planning to go if you didnt go already?  Did you figure out what is the best way to navigate with the kids?   With a 13 hr stop-over I am planning on just going to 1 or 2 places (as you know, Its not that easy to travel with the kids)  I would love to go to a restaurant and a canal ride, can You take kids on that?  (or a carriage?)
Thanks for your help!

Btw for anyone going on the DL34 on  Wed. Feb 20 there will be a massive group of 'Yeshiva Bochrim'
When you say - Wed Feb 20 - you mean that's when you land or that's the date of your orig. Flight?  Cuz I am leaving on Feb 19th - landing in AMS Feb 20th @ 7:50am....   so add one more to your minyan

Can anyone confirm that I can walk into the Delta lounge and pay $50 to allow access for myself, spouse and child?
Or do I need to pay $90 and sign up for a 30 day trial membership?

Are they big enough for a stroller?  or just a handbag?

Depends on the stroller but it should fit a compact stroller.
