Obviously if it is a danger to the mother's life we allow it. This is different I believe than some other religions. We always put a mother's life before an unborn child.

Not all Rabbonim will allow surgery though, it really depends on the case and wether the danger to the mother is a permanent one or temporary.

surgery on a male is a serious bibical issue of castirating. Only permitted if danger to life.
