Recommendations as to which bank is best.
What documentation do I need to open one up?

I think with TD you need to do 1 or 2 transactions a month, Bank of Montreal is free another perk BoM has is there US checks can be deposited in US Banks without fees

BTW If you have a TD account in the U.S. you can pull out CAD in Canada from your account at a TD ATM w/o any fees

I think it works vice versa as well

I have no problem with RBC - you can get a student account that won't have any fees. (I believe you just need to be the right age to get a student account even without a student ID.)
