Citi Dividend 5% CB Q2 2013 Categories

Just got letter from Citi Dividend, their 5% CB categories are very broad for Q2.

Groceries
Gas
Restaurants
Drugstores
Commuter Expenses

Limit is $300 cb so 6K in the quarter but probably worth it on the categories that are not 5% elsewhere this quarter.

Is there an issue buying VR on this card? (cash advance etc)

Also what's the best way to use the grocery category other than actual groceries?

I've been buying $500 gc's at stop & shop for quite some time now.

Today I was in two different stores and they both didn't let me pay with cc

I have been doing spend notifications with Chase & Amex and haven't had issues so far BH. Will it help with Citi?

Are you sure that's their Q2 categories and not some promotion you got? Online it's showing very different categories

I guess it depends on the area you are in.

Yup, I'll have to start going a bit further out to keep this going.

Now at least it'll be for two reasons - vr's + gc's

Not a big no no. For some reason Citi does not like CVS. If you are just doing 5k expect to get a call/text to verify the purchases.

Not a big no no. For some reason Citi does not like CVS. If you are just doing 5k expect to get a call/text to verify the purchases.

I only had an issue with Citi Dividend once, and all i had to do was respond "Yes" to a fraud text. IME, Chase and Amex are far more difficult to deal with.

Once Amex gets trained you won't here from them again until the FR comes knocking.

Good to know. I thought I remembered hearing that Citi classifies some of these purchases as cash advance so I wanted to avoid that.

This was already discussed... The CC issuer has no idea what you're buying at a given store.

One time I was at a CVS and the cashier called up my CC (Chase) and told them I was buying debit cards. They asked to put me on the phone and told me it was a cash advance. I told them I wasn't interested. I used my starwood card and she called them up and said the same thing. Amex didn't care.
