Kosher Food in MUC?
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:29:04 PM »
I have a 6 hour layover on LH in MUC next month. United Club membership should give me access to the LH Business Lounge. Any kosher either there or in the terminal? TYVM.

The LH FCL in MUC serves inedible Stogel meals.

Thanks much. I'm a United Club member flying Economy (how embarrassing :) so I think I only have access to the BCL?

The LH FCL in MUC serves inedible Stogel meals.

They also serve excellent 'Sohar' meals if you reserve in advance. Have had quite a few times. They will also warm them up in advance (unlike FRA) so if you have a short layover you can eat...

To OP - my advice would be to go into the city, by subway (S-Bahn). The kosher restaurant there is one of the best in Europe (if not the best..) IMO, and it is right in the city centre (few minutes walk from Marienplatz) so you can have a wander also. Lunch deals are especially good value - 2 course meal for about EUR 8. Most patrons are non-Jewish (90%!), so it has to meet 'regular' quality standards. It is open daily for lunch and dinner.

https://www.facebook.com/RestaurantEinstein

There is also a kosher deli somewhat outside of city centre, he delivers all over Europe but I have never tried asking for delivery to airport

http://danel.koscher.net/shop/

There is a chain of bakeries (over 30 branches throughout the city, not sure of closest to airport) and almost all the bread and many of the pastries is kosher - see

http://www.hofpfisterei.de/download/KoshZert20121203.pdf

Note that this is German (and very healthy) bread - I love it but YMMV....There are many branches in the city centre if you go there. Details on website.

There used to be a sandwich place in the main produce market and a milchig cafe in the city centre, but these closed down unfortuneately.

Re airport itself - only options in lounge is fruit. you can but some kosher chocolates/crisps in the shops and duty-free.

Forgot to add - there are also 2 large supermarket branches in the public area of airport, at regular prices. They are both 'Edeka' - one in Terminal 2 (Lufthansa terminal) and one above the train station (larger).
They both have a reasonable range of kosher goods, but you need to know what to look for..

List (by item and manufacturer) is here;

I've also heard great things about the kosher restaurant in Munich

Just call LH reservations, and if you have access (HON or F) they will arrange it - same as for FRA. If agent does not understand or is unsure, tell him to ask his supervisor.

I was also in LH FCL in March and had Sohar food preordered through the main LH phone number,  but it's not the fresh Sohar food like in FRA, you can see it's old. They use the same Sohar food that is served on LH flights ex MUC (las year lag baomer time I was served pesach food, so I would say they run 2 weeks behind).

Short haul flights out of MUC get Stogel, long haul get Sohar frozen.

No, just ask for kosher meal in first class lounge. Stogel is not a meal......

Eww.

I heard Sohar has kashret issues lately anyway. So this might be my only option.
