Would you really say that?

When I visit Israel -I feel as though half are still so stuck in the black and white and the other are dressed Chassidish and basically that's it.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but Israel is a different story when it comes to pretty much everything.

+100

And yeah I suppose that did take it off topic slightly. I guess it is a whole different story. I just don't feel as though they are more accepting of anything. There, you have people who dress the dress, talk the talk, but don't live the way I imagine a Chassid should.

What's the way you'd imagine a chosid to live as?

I guess it's not what I'd imagine. It's what I understand their sects to imagine.

No TV, nicer language etc.

We could get into a whole discussion of what it means to be a chossid.

In Israel at least IMHO, it used to mean a lot more.
Now it just means that's where/how you were born.

Why do you think a chossid is rather supposed to use nice language than the litvish or modox?

Its not what they're supposed to do.
Its the things they feel differentiate themselves. Its about standards.

An OT topic going OT. Who knows, maybe we'll end up in the video thread again :)

Semi decent documentary.

I know the pester and his family, he is a very bright individual with a kind heart. I think him being in the spotlight actually sheds a nice light on the fun part of chassidism.

I know Luzer as well, I feel bad for him but over the past few years he has gotten lots of love from his community, he knows he is always welcome back.

@ChAiM'l:
Luzer Twersky comes from an unstable family?
AFAIK, there's nothing wrong with his family, his father is the Foltishane rabbe of Boro Park.

Very unstable, whoever knows knows

Think if Luzer was lubavitch he may still be frum?

I.E. Is the fact that there is more room to "chill out" within chabad and not be ostracized (a gray area if you will) mean that there are fewer lubavitchers who will completely leave orthodox judaism versus chagas chasidim where things are more black and white (either you're in or you're out)?
in this case i disagree he still has his beard and peyos meaning he didn't let go entirely maybe he would have had he been lubavitch

What good is beard and payos if you're eating pork?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

This was filmed a while ago. He has gotten rid of them since.

I don't know if 'afraid' is the right word. In a community that the 'look' means more than anything else, one could be doing certain unacceptable actions without losing the 'look', and still feel a part of it.

there are aveiros that many/some of us do that may be shunned at if they met public knowledge but since nobody knows of them and we go on living as if it never happened we still have hope to do teshuva and get back on our feet and that is only because we belong to something but as soon as someone takes himsef out of the klal even if he is not doing bad he can lose it all as he has no embaressment and all it takes is one bad day to stoop he is missing the support others have and if im not mistakenly qouting "kol hamotzi atzmo min haklal chaiv misa" and there is also the chazal on aharon hakohen that he would greet everyone in such that the person would think to himself if only he knew... and that would bring him to do teshuva
