Recommendation for Good Window Air Conditioner
« on: April 13, 2013, 11:33:38 PM »
With summer coming up this thread may end up being useful to many people. I'll start - I'm looking for a good windows A/C unit 6000-8000 BTU - cheap, reliable and not too energy hungry.
Any recommendations?

IME frigidaires tend to be cheap, reliable and energy efficient. The problem is they're incredibly noisy. If you don't mind not being able to hear anything else when the AC is on, it's a great value.

  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

+1 I was gonna say the same thing.
I like the Friedrichs but they're not too cheap.

Getting a Head start on the summer and need to replace a 24,000 BTU air conditioner in my dining room that cools both dining room and the living room. My current AC is about 20 years old and through the wall. Seems my best option is a Friedrich Chill series which will run about $700 not including installation or their higher end series the Kuhl series which would be about $1600.

The salesman told me (either at Drimmers, Buzz or Town Appliance) that the Chill series wont last as long and they the Kuhl is significantly better made. Was wondering if anyone has any experience in this or can shed any light?

Appreciate the help in advance.
