Kobe, at this stage in his career, with his injury?
Dwight/lebron  are you not sure about Lebron? Did you see Dwight play this year.
What about dwade? Rose?

Kobe at age 38 doesn't need to probe himself, but rose does? And you'd consider not starting Lebron? I think I'd find another coach

If you had to build a team around a player would he be one of them?

Rots, I think you misunderstood the question. This would not be pick 5 guys to make the best possible team, rather to rank who would be the best player to build a team around. I believe CV was posing the question, are there at least 5 guys who you would choose individually to build a team around before Carmelo (CV, CMIIW). That would determine whether he's a top 5 guy. I'm sure that doesn't change your answer though, so...

As far as your starting 5 (well... 6) in no way, shape, or form should Kobe be on that list. He sustained an injury that basically signals the end for him. If he's even ready to start next season, it'll take him at least a year to get back into top playing form (and that's optimistic given all the other big names that have gone through the same thing - usually at much younger ages). I'm not counting on Kobe producing to even all star levels in his 19th season, at age 36.

I wouldn't say look where they are yet, bc they haven't made it out of the first round yet. Lets wait another round or two.

BUT Melo has carried the team this year (career year) and needs to be in any top player discussion.

They will beat Boston and compared to how they were the past 12 years I would say look where they are. Melo has always been a top player and this year he was even better than normal. for Rots5 to say he is not good is just ridiculous he can say he doesnt like him, but to write him off like that is insane IMO

There seems to be four or five members here that speak my language.  :)

I don't think hes not good. I think i said it that way, yes...i don't think he's a great. That's all. All you knick fans love him this yr but what happened to the first, what was it 3 seasons in NY?! He pulled an arod and sucked. You guys would've given him away for free basically. Now that he shoots 35 shots a game and scores 30 points all of a sudden hes a great!!???  Hes amazing?!  C'mon be realistic. Hes good but he ain't no great!

He is in the league since 03-04 and he averages 25 ppg his fg% is 45.6. Kobe in his career avg 25.5 ppg and fg% if 45.4 and Lebron avg ppg is 27.6 and fg% of 49%..... pretty similar stats.

You are nuts lol! he never averaged less than 22 ppg on the knicks and always shot about 45%. He is a top 5 player especially this year.

Yes I think it does detract, but still doesnt mean he is not great.
