I am sorry if this sounds complicated but I can't really explain what happened any more clearly because I don't know what happened.
Long story short I created 2 separate dividend mile accounts for my wife and myself when there was a 50% transfer bonus from starwood (transferred 60k from each of our accounts and posted in dividend account as 112,500) . So far everything is normal. In Feb I booked 2 round trip business class tickets to Zambia with a free stopover in JNB. I booked both tickets with one agent and gave her both our account numbers to deduct the miles from. There were approx $200 in taxes each and $50 Booking fee. I agreed to the fees and miles and she processed everything.
I got 2 separate emails with our identical itineraries with 2 different confirmation numbers. On my cc statement there were 2 charges for the 2 tickets. Went to united.com to choose my seats and was able to do so for both of us.
So here is the kicker...I get my dividend statement the next month and it never deducted my miles! Looked at my wifes account and it looked like this:
Activity:
Last activity date:
Beginning balance: 112,500
Miles added: 110,000
Miles used: -220,000
2013 Preferred miles: 0
2013 Preferred segments: 0
I never transferred miles to her and the only miles we had in our accounts were from the starwood transfer (note the miles added part, I never added those miles)! I don't know what happened or if it's going to stay this way but both our flights are still confirmed I still have 112,500 miles in my account and she has 2,500 in her account. I am happy to answer all questions to see if we can figure out how this happened (I am fairly busy at work so it might take time to respond), I don't want to jinx it, but at the moment I just got a free trip to Africa in Business!!!! Anyone have any ideas?
