Please help need to understand what happens if miss connecting flight booked sep

Hi all trying to book air Berlin going to dus with Aa miles and then to tlv with ba miles.  The time difference is only 2 hours in dus.  If flight is delayed going there am I messed over or will they put me on next dus to tlv flight?  Any way to combine tickets need to know b4 book thsnx

I believe you are covered with oneworld even if on sep tickets.

Just curious why would someone use aa miles for a ab flight if available and can be booked on ba?

Hanks all.  Does same metal mean same airline? Also a follow up what do I have to do about getting baggage in.   The reason I would use aa is because 20k aa and 35 ba from Mia to dus
