Its really quite simple. They dont have to reinvent the wheel. DL sells billions of dollars worth of miles to Amex every year. All they have to do is offer the same thing. It doesnt even have to be better. can even be slightly worse

Seriously?! Haven't you seen how many suckers currently buy into the lousy HAS card because "it earns El Al points" and "you're supporting Israel"?!
In the frum community, but it would never spread to the general community.
And I don't think that Chase, AMEX, Citi, etc care all that much about promoting a card to the frum community only.

You mean that they should offer a better exchange rate? Agreed, but until they eliminate YQs or have better redemption rates, few ppl will utilize it unless its to top off accounts, or when they're running their promos like they had a few months back.

C'mon, that's really juvenile. This is not grade school, this is multi-billion dollar economics. They had to let them save face somehow...

Are you implying Ragean as being a juvenile?

Do you read any Hebrew blogs and websites? LY had NO public support whatsoever, they wouldn't have been able to take the heat for 2 much longer.

multi-billion dollar economics

Elal is traded at a value of $40M, probably less than the combined value of the building you live in.

Dan, this means an increased subsidy of around $20 million, chump change. It's not going to save LY unless they also change. They'll actually have to start competing on Europe fares w/ low-cost carriers.
I think this is a victory for the government since the Open Skies will remain as-is.

These unions are getting there way again  >:( and walking away with over inflated salaries.
Just look at iberia the only reason they are still solvent is because of iag and still they are striking because they want same salaries as 10 year's with the same terms.
Elal doesn't have iag and they don't have the financial backing to pay these salaries.

Its astonishing how that conversation can develop to a point where somehow you are being branded as "anti-Israel", totally baffling, even funny!
Why so much naïveté among commenters on DD?!  (well, thats a question not just now, but...)

The government didn't capitulate at all. It accepted the one point the airlines were right about.

No, I'm implying that "let them go bankrupt!" is juvenile. We want them to improve, not disappear. Yitamu chato'im v'al chotim, and all that.
