Does anyone know what the earliest Halachic source for prohibiting music listening during Sefira? The Mishna B'rura doesn't mention it so it must be more recent.

Shulchan aruch writes it and he's before MB. Its helpful to know that many poskim assur listening to any music all year long, so you won't find any special sefira halachas from them.

The SA makes no mention of this relative to Sefira.

In case I wasn't clear, my question is: what's the earliest source prohibiting the listening to music during Sefira by someone who holds that listening to music year-round is permitted.

from what i have been told, the entire issur itself is only a takeoff on what the achronim (MB) assur dancing

What is the source for not listening to recorded music? Is there any basis for this in Halacha, or is this a "bugs in the water" type of issur? (Sorry, contemporary Rabbonim don't qualify as a "source" for this matter).

The Shiur I recently heard on this topic said it is basically based in te issur of listening to music a whole year.. We are more machmir on this during the sefira (there might have wen another reason too.. I will check up later..)

I was also wondering what the status of a modern day keyboard piano is. Since the music is digital and essentially pre-recorded, is it considered "klei zemer"?

There will be no source older than the gramophone. Either way, why isn't an iPod a musical instrument? What difference does it make if the key you press is b flat or play?

I've always thought it funny that all the MB assurs on sefira is singing and dancing, and that is exactly what the yeshiva oilem does during sefira. Personally I'd rather be listening to music which is not brought down anywhere (AFAIK) more than 100 years ago to be assur davka during sefira, then do something (kumzitz) which the MB says pretty straight out is assur

R' Moshe has a teshuvah about the minhag of not listening to music during sefira
