Running for ChaiLifeline
« on: May 29, 2013, 09:48:50 AM »
Anyone out here run or is thinking about running with ChaiLifeline at the upcoming marathons?

I ran the full with them in Miami. Thinking about signing up for the NYC marathon this November.

If you meet the amount required to collect, they cover flight, hotel, pre/post race meals and race entry (for the person running).

If you want a room for yourself or have your spouse stay with you, there is an additional charge. If you want to join for the meal they do over Shabbat i believe it was $35 a meal per person.

ChaiLifeline was really on top of everything. They did not provide transportation to/from the airport but it was not a big deal or expensive to get a cab to the hotel and was reasonably simple to share a cab with another runner. They put us up in the Eden Roc hotel which was really nice. They had all the race information and paraphernalia we would need at the hotel, saving the trouble of going and getting your race stuff yourself. I opted to get the Shabbat meals which was really nice and was great to meet the runners and supporters in that environment. Race day they had buses to the starting line for the runners and had multiple buses leaving the finish line at different times. They also provided buses for friends and families to different parts of the race to cheer on the runners. One of the many extra things they did for the runners was having our finisher medals engraved with whatever you wanted once you got back to the hotel and it was done before you were heading back to the airport.

About the actual marathon:
I am from NY/NJ and had been training through the winter for the marathon, so one of the biggest "shocks" was running in 70/80 degree weather plus humidity. The actual course is very beginner friendly as it is almost entirely flat.

As i am sure i did not cover everything, please let me know any questions you may have.

Sounds like allot of fun.
How much do you have to raise?
Did you have to go for shabbos?
Is the NY one done annually?
I appreciate you answering my q's.

Sounds like allot of fun. Was a lot of fun, would have been better if i did not get the flu three days before the race.
How much do you have to raise? I believe it was a minimum of $3,600 if you wanted flight and hotel.
Did you have to go for shabbos? No
Is the NY one done annually? I believe so but do not think they have the same "experience" as the whole Miami weekend (could be wrong though).
I appreciate you answering my q's. No problem.

I always wanted to run a  marathon but never had a real push. Signing up through ChaiLifeline was the push and incentive i needed to train. It also felt really good to raise money for their organization.

I would like to run in NY. Now that i finished Miami, i would like to do the more "famous" marathons of NY and Boston. I will probably decide August time if i will run or not. Need to give myself around three months to train.

Yes. If i remember correctly, they send you a "re-commitment" form around 8-10 weeks before the marathon which you agree to collect the full amount. If you don't collect the full amount, you will get charged on a cc the remaining amount.
