Cool. Source?
Heard it on a security now podcast. Don't remember which one https://twit.tv/shows/security-now

ETA: Found it https://twit.tv/shows/security-now/episodes/526?autostart=false . The discussion of speed tests starts at around 12:30. Speaking of SN, if you're in IT or Cybersecurity, I highly recommend this podcast. It's primarily about security, but there's a lot to be learned about computers in general

Yes it's better. Internet service providers have been known to detect that you're on speedtest.net and give your connection a (temporary) boost so you think you're getting better speeds. They can do the same with dsl reports speed test, but since that one's less popular, there's a smaller chance of them tweaking your speeds

That's unbelievable (though in reality completely believable). So they throttle you down when they detect torrents and other downloading but throttle you up when they think your testing them.

I'm on win7 using a program officechat.com
The sounds do not work all other sounds are ok, the notification preferences in the program is all correct, their support team was only so helpful to tell me it is using the windows system asterisk sound which does work fine.

Check the volume mixer by right clicking the volume icon

All is max, this specific program does not show a separate item in the volume mixer, it uses system sound

I think you got the wrong terminology. You're not trying to download.

Use Windows Explorer (in Windows 7) or File Explorer (in Windows 10) to locate the drive of the card reader or CD drive. It should be indicated as a single letter of the alphabet followed by a colon ( : ). Copy the desired photos and paste them to the desired destination folder.

I tried viewing photos that were saved on a cd and couldn't open it.
What could be the reason?
It's a new and very basic computer.

What happens when you try to open them? Can you post a screenshot?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Depending on your autoplay settings, it may not pop up on its own. Open My Computer and double click on the CD drive.

For the last couple of days I have been having intermittent issues connecting to the internet. I am getting DNS error messages such as "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET".

Worth mentioning I am connecting to Optimum Wifi using a BearExtender, which is basically an external network adapter with an extended antenna.

I have tried a number of solutions posted online to no avail.
These include entering ipconfig /release, ipconfig /all, ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /renew, netsh int ip set dns, netsh winsock reset in the command prompt.
Changing to Google's DNS.
Changing to Google's DNS.
Updating device manager.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I get that error intermittently when connected straight to Optimum Wifi. Could it be that it's just the signal?

I still get signal I just am not connected to Internet.

Removed filter. Didn't help. Also uninstalled antivirus. Didn't help.
