Have you tried ping?
Do you mean pinngtest.net?
Just did it now. It was unable to check for packet loss because I don't have Java installed. Ping results were 20 ms, Jitter results were 11 ms, and connection was given a grade B.
I am not familiar with this site or what exactly their metrics mean.
However, I  don't think this addresses my problem. My problem is not the speed or quality when it's working; it's that it intermittently just stops working.

There's no extensive installation involved. It attaches to USB. They recommend downloading a specific driver, although it worked with out it. That said, I removed their driver and reinstalled, to no avail.

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I was actuallly referring to opening command prompt, and typing
Code: [Select]
ping google.com. That can tell you if there's a working internet connection.

My desktop computer was making whirring and grinding and clacking noises, so I turned it off. Is it better not to try and turn it on myself? Should I take it to someone instead?

TIA

I would assume it's the fan in which case you have nothing to worry about just clean out the fan when you have a chance
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

That would be a relief. How do I know it's not the hard drive?

Open up the desktop and listen to where the noise is coming from

Yup
And that's not bad for my hard drive (and data) if indeed it is the hard drive?

You can unplug the hard drive before turning it on

Try bitpim, you need drivers though.
I downloaded Bitpim but having trouble installing. Anyone install it successfully on Windows 10?
I get error CreateProcess failed;code 740.
The requested operation requires elevation.
Right clicking and selecting run as administrator didn't help. Any advice?

Used to be on his signature line. I guess now that he removed it etech0 was right for doing it via PM.
