SSD

Is it worth putting $120 in to a laptop that cost $300 2 years ago?

I have the same computer and have already ordered a RAM upgrade to 8GB.  This is a typical view of my Task Manager.  Is a SSD going to make such a difference?  Most of the time it seems that the CPU is the bottleneck.

I don't know. All I know is that over the past year the computer has been terribly slow.

Does CPU stay like that at 100% most of the time? We can't see it from the screen shot you posted, but you could click the CPU column heading to sort by that column and then you will see which processes are using the CPU most. From the current screen shot, we only see that Chrome is using the CPU a lot. It could be a misbehaving program at fault here.

If the CPU is pegged at 100 percent, buying an SSD won't help you much. Go through your list of installed programs, delete the ones you don't use. If you don't recognize an installed program, Google it. Run CCleaner and antivirus/antimalware
Eta you can click the CPU tab to sort the list by apps using the most CPU, reinstall those. If its chrome, try closing some tabs

I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I recently upgraded to a new Windows 10 PC, and overall it's good, but a few annoyances. I hope someone can help:
1 - The size of the icons on the desktop fluctuates from tiny to huge. Usually tiny on the laptop screen, and huge when connected to a monitor.
2 - The touchscreen is moody. Sometimes it stops working.
3 - The Numlock is also moody, and sometimes needs to be pressed when I turn the machine on.
I've researched these issues, and have not yet found adequate solutions.
Thanks.

Have the numlock issue too. Didn't bother me much cuz I usually log in via fingerprint, and the few times I did have to use the pin I didn't mind pressing the extra button. Yesterday I reinstalled the entire win 10 OS, I will have to check if that was resolved. I reinstalled due to another issue that microsoft was unable to resolve so they told me to do that, and BH it helped! I will check tomorrow, BLN, if it took care of the numlock too.

Much ore a time saver than cool. It's simply amazing!!!

P.S. The issue why I reinstalled the os http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=27868.msg1415995#msg1415995
Unfortunately I did not find a solution till now. And it was really getting in the way of work. BH, for the time being, it works good.

Is it built in, or an accessory?

The neat part about it is that it not only enables me to unlock the laptop with a swipe of the finger, but it also allows me to use it to log into online accoonts. I set it once per account and then I never have to enter a password into that account again!

Enjoy!
Thanks. :) Definitely something to look into when buying a laptop in the future, expecially if it's not too pricey.

I had so many other features that I wanted... ;)
No complaints. I was migrating files over to the new PC. What took hours to load onto a flash drive (from the old one), went onto the new one in minutes.

1 - Does the fluctuation in icon size correspond to the difference in monitor size? Is the resolution of the built in monitor different than the resolution of the external monitor?

2 - I don't have much to suggest other than to clean it with a screen wipe cloth.

3 - Some computers have a BIOS setting that determines whether Num Lock is on or off when you start the computer.

Thanks for replying.
1 - I don't think it's that sensible.
2 - It's a software issue. I think it may be an energy saving feature. But I can't seem to be able to control it.
3 - Yes, I already adjusted that, but it's still moody...

The resolution issue is very sensible. Please report the resolution and diagonal size of both and I will explain.

If you think it's an energy saving feature, here is something you can try: go to Device Manager and locate the touch screen device. Then choose from the menu to view by connection. Then double click the touch screen device and look for a power tab. Don't allow Windows to turn it off. Then you may want to do the same for each level above it (when you are viewing by connection).
