Did you try the troubleshooter? Right click on the network icon on the bottom right and click troubleshoot
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Yes, I did the same thing from my chrome browser. That is what gave me the "ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration" message

Right click on the icon, network and sharing>change adapter settings>click on ethernet>disable this device>-wait 30 seconds->enable this device

I did this from memory so some of the steps may not have the exact wording

I'll try this as soon as I have a chance.

Thanks for all the help (you too, PC Geek).

I tried my sister's laptop and that had the same issue. (She mentioned it hasn't been working the past couple of times).
Then I swapped cords with my desktop. The desktop works with either cord and my laptop doesn't work with either (actually 3 different cords it doesn't work with).

The issue seems to be on the computer. I seem to be having the same issue with both laptops. I am pretty sure my sisters laptop still worked after mine stopped working, another indication that the problem is in the computers.

No There's no need and recently I've found it to make problems. Does wifi work?

I am not sure. I don't have wifi at home.
Right before it stopped working I was on a trip, I had trouble getting wifi in the hotel and it stopped working in middle. When I got home the ethernet didn't work. It is possible that airplane mode somehow got switched on, but it still didn't work after I switched it off.  I haven't tried the wifi since.
