I have a hardware issue with my sansa mp3 player. Is there an electronics thread?

My issue is that vocals in songs are distorted and/or low volume.  When I switch from stereo to mono, all cuts out.  All 3 contacts for the headphone jack seem to be good.  What could be the issue?
Check the equalizer.

Check the equalizer.
Thanks, I did.  I set everything to 0.  I also restored settings.  I think maybe the jack is not making contact well on the inside. I can manipulate the plug in such a way that sound returns to normal momentarily.  Any way to test/fix this besides getting a new jack?

ETA: I just discovered that if I bridge the base of the plug (the part closest to the plastic that protrudes a bit from the jack when the case is off) with either the contact closest to it or a screw (which is grounded to the board I think) sound returns to normal.

Any recommendations for a laptop repair store/person in Lakewood or Brooklyn. I have a laptop that was working fine but now doesn't turn on. No charging indicator light either when plugged in.

Try another charger before seeking outside help.

I have an old desktop computer with the i5 3570 processor based on the above comparison is that better than this $1400 laptop performance wise (assuming I put in a SSD into my PC)?

Not sure what you are pointing out, but it is misleading to say "$1400 laptop" when speaking about a CPU since you can find laptops with this i7 for like $500 (one such https://www.edealinfo.com/d/00192563215615/Lenovo-IdeaPad-130-15-6-inch-HD-Laptop-with-Intel-Quad-Core).

This laptop costs $1400 for a lot of other reasons besides the processor...

And even the processor itself (and other components probably as well, RAM for example) so much newer is certainly better performing in a lot of things (besides the point the point that the i5 is probably used and worn out, and drivers etc are not really as new and supported.)

It is hard to answer by just the general model number. And also - since this is a laptop that never came with Windows 7 - the drivers might not be compatible with Windows 7.

But try the following:
Touchpad = https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/es3205af.exe
WiFi = https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/esl003af.exe
Network = https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/9uli08af.exe
You can also try installing the Lenovo Utility and see if it can find drivers (once you have network connection) = https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/wwlb0d0e.exe

Do the built in trackpad mouse and keyboard work?

I did this once and I had to burn the network drivers onto a CD in order to install them, after that I was able to download the rest.

Does the CD player work (if it has one)?

If yes you may be able to get by with that and the keyboard - there are lots of keyboard shortcuts in windows and you may be able to use them to get that first driver installed (either USB / Mouse / Network)

I agree I was being misleading when I called it that.

When you say that newer is better performing than old (assuming it's not worn out), in what way is it better?

Somebody I know just bought this laptop for AutoCAD and Revit work. I was told it costed $1400 so I figured it was a very good laptop. But then when I saw the specs I was like you spent that much money on a laptop and it doesn't even have a graphics card. And the processor is as good as my old $100 PC.
Granted it does have a nice screen, touch, 360° folding, thin, light and nice looking.

It is not so granted...by you...

He paid for a portable machine (a 15.6" laptop would come with a great graphics card for this price) which your's is obviously not, and also for a nice amount of RAM, a generous SSD, and an ultra-premium screen clear and with a lot of real-estate (4K).

Newer is better due to compatibility, and improvements on all kind of CPU specs. (And also due to the fact that a CPU so old is almost certainly used and worn out.)

Hmm, I don't know much about finding drivers. Can you look on Lenovo's website and see what internet / mouse drivers they list for your laptop's model number?

Otherwise, paging @Yisroel Tech
