Next question (different computer :) ):

I reinstalled windows on a 1 year old laptop, installed windows updates, Chrome, and Avast, and am trying to figure out why it's running slowly. I just turned it on and nothing is running, but Task Manager shows Disk as 100%. Any ideas why that could be? Right now the top items in that column are Service Host: Local System, System, and Google Chrome Installer.
CrystalDiskInfo?
Avast - Please tell me only minimal protection.
Sure Windows Update wasn't still running?

Avast - of course! Pretty sure windows update wasn't running, how can I check?

I'm downloading CrystalDiskInfo, what should I do with it?

Update: Crystal says Health Status is Good and Temp is 31 Celsius.

I don't have it installed on the computer I'm on right now, so I can give you more details tomorrow, but it was something to the effect of:
1) choose the folder/files to work on
2) in the list of renaming options, choose to insert text at beginning/end
3) type in your text to add, and tell it where to add it
4) optional, see a preview of the new file name(s)
5) click run and it just goes. Finishes in seconds, too :)
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Advanced Renamer user here...

It is a great program and is much easier and nicer than most others.

To add a manual string to the end of the filename use the Add option:

But you can even use Image Tags to name it automatically based on the camera model, see below:

Sounds nice! I'll bet you can do that with Ant Renamer as well, it has lots of advanced features that I haven't tried. But good to know!

Indeed you can use EXIF data (for photos) in Ant Renamer, but you need to go through help files to find the correct strings, while in Advanced Renamer it is all handy selections.

I assume that your photos were not on a removable memory card. With that assumption, I have no answer to offer. If they were on a memory card, get it connected to a computer and there are several options.

Is there a software that can control which programs can access the internet? Let's say i'm connecting to my phone's hotspot and I don't want Windows update to start running or random installed stuff to check for updates

There are a lot (starting with Windows Firewall...) but they're gonna be hard to manage.

For Windows Update, in Windows 10, you can set your WiFi connection (by SSID) as a Metered Connection, in which case it'll not run most Windows Updates:

I know about metered but want to have more control to see what connects & restrict per my needs
