malware bytes free download helped me get rid of bad programs and viruses

Looks like this worked. It found wajam and removed it. Seems to be working ok now. Thanks tons, that was scary.

Only issue now is my browser keeps opening to taplika search. Can't change default home page or search engine.

you might have to unistall some extensions, check & see if it installed anything suspicious

My (almost brand new) windows 8.1 laptop has been trying to install an update for the last hour and a half.

Is that normal? Should I stop it somehow?

being new means there are a lot of updates needed so it's possible but it sounds like quite a while

It's not brand new, just almost. I turn it off every day, so this is just today's updates. And it's still working on installing update 1/3.

Is there anything I can do to stop it? It says not to turn it off...

if you turn it off it may corrupt the whole thing

Having a issue with a old Dell XP computer.

When I login the desktop (the icons, the menu bar) doesn't load. It loads fine in Safe Mode.

What I tried
(1) Restored to a earlier system restore
(2) Task manager > new task > explorer.exe

Any other suggestions?

I would guess it's a virus

Thats what I was thinking. Downloading AVG and then going to scan.

If it doesn't find one check the running services for something that doesn't look right

i have a toshiba l855 s5372 that the touchpad is not working for regular movements
it seems only to scroll but not the standard moving around or selecting
any ideas?
for now i am using a usb mouse

Any computer technicians here live in Jerusalem? my computer just stopped cooperating, won't let me click anything on anything, will only work (barely) in safe mode.
