External hard drive that I plug in to my Mac making all files/folders into .lnk files. I know it's bc it's windows and the Mac doesn't 'recogniZe' it but is there a way around it?

Ok I found this https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120221092749AAreHp4 which says that lnk files are windows links to the actual files so you need to go deeper into the folders to find the actual files

Not sure what that means or how that would work.

No. Looks like this.
it seems like this utility tool will help turn all .lnk files into alias files and should fix the problem (I don't know anything about mac but this sounds right)

Are you sure it's turning them into .lnk and that they werent that way earlier.  I come across USB infections constantly, and the way it works is that it renames all the files to .lnk which actually run script files (usually a vbs somewhere).  Try viewing hidden files and see if the regular ones pop up.

Does it work on another PC?

When it's in the original PC, right-click on the file and click on open file location.  Chances are it'll lead you to the true file and this was just a shortcut.

Yes, on a Non-Mac that is. Ill try it today and do that. I assume you are suggesting to see the "true location" and then look for that location on my MAC.

I have an ongoing problem with my laptop losing its internet connection.  I do the troubleshooting and I'm told that the gateway connector was a problem but was fixed. Tab and phones have no such problem.  Thoughts?  Thanks.

And that automatically overrides the built in wireless?

My laptop always losses internet connection after being online for more than a few hours so I turn off and then turn back on the WiFi and it works
