It attempts to make the connection and then says can't connect to network.
I have now removed the LAN wire from the router and stuck it directly into the new laptop.
So I am currently using the new laptop and able to access internet but not wirelessly.

Try running windows update it may take care of it

No need once they download but if you use it it will take longer to install and while it installs the computer will be slow

OK good because you asked about taking it out while installing... just making sure
I assume it does some sort of configurations before downloading, you don't usually notice it when it's just a few updates

Got this new laptop today LENOVO G50 - 80E30181US and can't logon to local wifi networks.
I have removed the password on the network, I have also connected 3 other devices successfully today (after the new laptop failed.)
I have uninstalled the network driver from device manager and restarted the laptop. I was able and still can see the different networks, just can't connect to them.
I have tried ipconfig/release and got an error msg that the media is not connected.
I can't forget the network, it is not giving me that option. (when the password was still on the network i had to key in the password with every attempt to connect)
any other ideas?

With Windows 8 it's a little harder to forget network but it's doable, it's probably still trying to connect with old saved details... I'm on my phone can't post info how to do it but GIYF. If that doesn't work or you can't find it change the SSID on the router.

I'm assuming you've restarted the router as well

Ok finished installing all Windows updates and there are no more updates available.
Still won't connect to my wifi.
(Although I was able to connect to Optimum public hotspot. But couldn't navigate anywhere online, as it kept saying the security was compromised.)

PC settings>network>manage know networks
Tried, doesn't give me an option to manage known networks. went to pc settings and clicked on Network. Only 5 options. Connections, Airplane mode, Proxy, Homegroup, and Workplace. Inside Connections it shows me two possible connections, wifi and ethernet. no options to manage networks in either option.

Is your old laptop windows 8? if you don't have manage networks its possible nothing is saved...did you try switching the SSID name?

Old laptop is windows 8.1 just like the new one.
I've changed the network name, can still logon with my old laptop but not the new one.
