My Windows 10 laptop (a few years old, upgraded from 7 about a month ago) won't turn on. I got a "page fault in non paged area" error upon restarting last night, and then it downgraded itself back to windows 7. Now it won't turn on - I can try Startup Repair but it fails, turning it on regularly fails, Windows Memory Diagnostics comes back fine. I can get into CMD but chkdsk won't run.

Any ideas/advice? Is there a bootable CD that can check for hardware errors? (It's 4 years old so I have to decide if it's worth putting $ into).

Thanks!

Just re install windows with a clean install from a cd either 7 or 10..

Or try system restore in safe mode by hitting f8 key on startup

System Restore didn't work. I will try a clean install but was wondering if there was an easy way to rule out hardware issues be for i spend the time.

Sounds like it may be a bad hard drive

I just tried booting into safe mode and the computer made 8-9 really loud beeps. Any idea what that means?

Uh oh. How do I verify that? I can get into CMD but it won't let me run chkdsk...

I'm looking for REASONS and FACTS why it is not great.
A virus an easily disable it (unlike most antivirus).

To be fair, "8 short beeps" is not in this list.

I'm not sure why everyone is discussing boot CDs, but page fault errors are usually due to faulty RAM. Check if the address location is the same every time the error comes up. If it is the same chances are one of your RAM sticks are dead/dying.

worked it out?
remember, you can set to legacy/csm and access windows partitions with chntpw or whatever. its just a matter of booting into windows that you'll need to revert back to uefi
