Anyway to determine if that's indeed the case?
Plug it into a different computer and see if you can pull the data

Whichever option I choose it gets me back to this again, what can I do?

Haven't installed anything, laptop running on windows 7.

ETA now my wife is telling me that the laptop fell down earlier but it was still working afterwards, it later froze so she powered it off and then is when the problems began.

Likely that the fall damaged the hard drive
I played around with the laptop and I pressed F12 (I think) and came across some test, so I ran the test and this is what I got;

So what does this mean?

It can mean the hard drive is loose or failing. If you're comfortable opening the case and reconnecting the cable just to be sure. Also did you try CHKDSK /R in CMD?

I took out the hard drive from the laptop and when I plugged it into to the wall outlet it started beeping and clicking and wasn't recognized by the computer where I connected in to.

If it's clicking loudly unplug it immediately. That means that the head is crashing into the disk and will cause irreversible physical damage. Only way to recover data is data recovery professional

Ok, so you believe that's definitely the issue, correct?
Will a professional most likely be able to recover the data?

I've had a wonderful experience with him. (In my pre DDF days  ;))

Shame he doesn't hang around here too much any more.  :'(

I had a virus that hid all my files on my USB and I wasn't able to pull them up. (At the time I didn't know that it was a virus, I thought I actually lost them.) IIRC it was ~$20-$25. He removed the virus and retrieved everything.

I had a hard drive that was very dead - my regular computer guy couldn't get anything off it. I sent it to a place someone recommended and they wanted $1200 (IIRC) so I said no thanks. DH did it for $600.

In windows 8.1 my laptop used to make a weird beep when I pressed CTRL or CTRL+SHIFT for the first time after each restart of the computer.
Now that I upgraded to windows 10, it beeps for the first time after each time i log in to windows.

What is this?

Thanks!

A quick Google search reveals that it can be caused by various third party programs which use CTRL+SHIFT to trigger something. Aside from that, I would recommend looking in the control panel under ease of access whether you have anything related to the keyboard (like sticky keys) turned on

Is there any way to sync my browser history between Chrome and FF? (I'm using xmarks to sync bookmarks but it looks like it doesn't do history)

Thanks!

Thanks! Have you tried it? Wondering if it actually works / if the other features get in the way.
