in the mean time, you can try something like this: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/your-pc-is-offline-windows

Thanks

He suggests this

Create a system restore point first and then Run regedit to open the Registry Editor. Next navigate to the following key:

but how do you do that if you cant logon?

i think i got it.

i got a windows 10 download from dell for my computer, so i have that

he suggests

Replace the file utilman.exe with cmd.exe. Before you do this, you should rename utilman.exe so that you can restore it later after password reset.

But he doesnt show that he restores the utilman.exe (whatever that does). Is that step needed and how would you do it?

I'm trying to open a certain excel workbook but I'm getting the following message despite removing a couple gb of data from my pc. This only happens with this particular workbook; others open fine.

Maybe it's corrupt. Can anyone else open it?

Yes. I got it as an email attachment and I was in the sender's office yesterday when it opened without a problem.

Tell him to resend it using a different service. Corrupted attachments happen

The funny part is that in the preview pane in file explorer I can see it.

Ok. Thank you everyone! Despite trying this a couple times before, it now opened after I deleted the downloaded attachment and downloaded it anew again.

It's a windows update issue.
try this - http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9830262  (or if you have W7 - http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9666880 )
and then try the update again
This looked like it was working but now I got error code 80072EE2.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-80072ee2#1TC=windows-7

Or just do it manually, download the windows 10 from:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench  (scroll to bottom)

Idk but if you're looking for a good speed test use http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
It's better than speedtest.net?

I'm not really looking for a good speed test - just looking for more speed. But that helps too.

Yes it's better. Internet service providers have been known to detect that you're on speedtest.net and give your connection a (temporary) boost so you think you're getting better speeds. They can do the same with dsl reports speed test, but since that one's less popular, there's a smaller chance of them tweaking your speeds

Wow, that's interesting. Thanks!

So publicizing it would defeat the purpose :)
