Right click>properties>security>advanced settings>change owner to yourself

I am doing this by heart so I may not have all the steps exactly right
Now, the drive doesn't show up at all in This PC (My Computer). The light on the enclosure is still flashing, though... not sure if it's safe to remove or not...

How do I eject it safely if the Unplug/Eject Hardware doesn't show up in my system tray?

I would turn off the computer.

I have a win 10 computer where I can't change the resolution. In the options it's greyed out?
Any way around this?

Any way to get back the Windows 8 License Key from a computer that was fully formatted (all partitions deleted)?

No, Windows can't find it since its usually stored on the Recovery Partition.
There's no sticker or anything on the computer.
Computer is a Dell XPS 8500.
Computer was purchased by me back in 2012 from Dell.
It's actually stored in the hardware and is still there
Forgot to post an update on this:

Figured out the problem (I think). The original OS was Win 8, the OS I tried re-installing was from a Win 8.1 disc (I guess that makes a difference for registering).

I partitioned the HD and installed Win 7 and it registered automatically. Scrapped Win 8/8.1 as I never liked it anyways.

Thanks all for your help.

Thanks but I tried that already, rolled driver back and re updated. None let me change resolution
It's running a graphic tool called Intel graphics and media control panel.
I tried adding a custom resolution but it's not working

I would try using DDU to remove drivers, and install newest ones from source.

Thanks, in the end it was a driver issue, except that it needed to be updated manually

Okay I did that. Then turned computer back on, and plugged in the enclosure. When I went to This PC I found the drive, but right clicking made the whole thing freeze up. Eventually it woke up, but now the drive doesn't show in This PC anymore.

Now what?

Find a desktop PC running a recent version of Windows with an up to date antivirus. Connect the drive to it via SATA without the enclosure, as an additional hard drive. Start up the PC and open Disk Management. Look at the partitions on the newly connected drive. If they appear as expected, right click on the partition containing the data you want, choose Properties, go to the Tools tab and check it for errors, checking the options to automatically fix and to check for bad sectors.
Then try again to copy the data you want.

Thanks for the advice!

This is my first time doing anything this complicated, so bear with me if you can. The drive in question is a 2.5". My desktop has space for a few hard drives, but it looks like they need to be much bigger. Maybe 3.5"? Do I need to buy some kind of case/adapter?

It uses the same sata and power cables as 3.5 inch. If you want to permanently mount the drive in your case you should buy a 2.5 to 3.5 mounting bracket, but in this scenario it's temporary, so you can just place the drive on the "floor" of the case.

No need for an adapter, I've installed probably 100 ssds in desktops and just put one screw in a sturdy place and it's fine. Being that it's not a spinning drive it doesn't need nearly the same support and as long as it's not just floating around you are just fine.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Since it's temporary, you don't really need a bracket as long as you can find a stable surface for the drive. But if you're nervous about it, you can use something like this: 2.5 Inch to 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Disk Drive Mounting Kit
