My Windows 10 laptop (a few years old, upgraded from 7 about a month ago) won't turn on. I got a "page fault in non paged area" error upon restarting last night, and then it downgraded itself back to windows 7. Now it won't turn on - I can try Startup Repair but it fails, turning it on regularly fails, Windows Memory Diagnostics comes back fine. I can get into CMD but chkdsk won't run.

Any ideas/advice? Is there a bootable CD that can check for hardware errors? (It's 4 years old so I have to decide if it's worth putting $ into).

Thanks!
To bump an old post...

It's not the RAM. I switched the hard drive for a brand new one, and am trying to install Windows 10 from USB, but it tells me that there are no drivers available, and doesn't let me continue.

Any advice? Am I better off installing it with a DVD?

TY

Try using a USB 2.0 port instead of USB 3.0 IME that solved it the few times that I had that issue.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

This is very funny - I was using a 2.0 before. I just tried a 3.0 one, and it seems to be working now!

Weird!

Thanks for the tip!

Weird issue. I cannot connect to the internet when my laptop is relying on the battery alone. The computer's network adapter gets disabled when it's unplugged from the power or when the computer is turned on when not plugged in.

In order to reenable the connection I have to restart, which can take as long as >20 minutes, till I get an error message "driver power state failure". Anything I can do for this?

either in power options, or in the network card properties

Tried in the power settings, didn't see anything of the like. Will try in the network card properties.

The computer or the monitor?  The monitor will act the same as if it was connected to a laptop.
The laptop will function the same..

The monitor!  So if I have a  i7 laptop which is fast (with a ssd) is there any reason  I should buy a desktop?  The only reason I want to connect a monitor is because I need a huge screen.

If you're happy with the way the laptop functions (besides for the screen size) there's no reason to buy a desktop. Just buy a monitor and plug it in. You can even buy an external keyboard and mouse if you want.

One thing to look out for with monitors, is that it has the right ports to connect with your laptop. Laptops come with either VGA or HDMI, and monitors can come with VGA, DVI, or HDMI (or more than one). It will be easiest for you if they have the same connection; if they don't, you can get an adapter for most connections, but the VGA to HDMI ones are not reliable IME.

Thank you for the information.  Except of the port connection is there anything else I need to look for when buying a  monitor?

YW. Probably, but I'm not sure what :). Besides screen size, of course!

He probably uses a program like ShareX, they make uploading screenshots much easier.
