What's the easiest way to get a MS Office license off of a dead computer?
What part is dead?

Not sure... I just bought a new desktop so I'm going to plug in the hard drive and see if it can read it.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

If you can read the hard drive (even not to boot it) you can probably get the key out with ProduKey from Nirsoft http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

If you are booting from a different hard drive change the source in ProduKey to the Windows directory from this plugged in hard drive.

You can only get the last 5 digits of office 2013 or 2016 key
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

First of all, be really cautious with anything you are doing (basically don't try to do anything that is suppose to make any changes to the drive. For instance, initializing the drive will make the drive blank) if you still want any chance of getting back data from it.

This can very possibly be a hardware error and you should consult a pro. Maybe from here http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=18378.0

Now. Disk management says "Not Initialized" for the Disk and "Unallocated" for the Partition? Does it at least report the size of the disk correctly?

This is 2010 so we should be good.

Trying to get the old hard drive out of the old desktop, and I'm having a bit of trouble.

There are a bunch of screws to unscrew in order to remove the hard drive enclosure, and one if them is partially blocked by something (pardon the non-technical term).

See red arrows in this picture:

And here's another pic from a different angle:

May I yank out the white thing with all the wires coming out of it, so that I can get a screwdriver in there? It doesn't come out when I pull gently.

TIA!

There should be a way to release the drive without taking out the screws. Going back to the cables, there should be a clip to squeeze in the middle of one of the sides to release the cable
I unplugged both wires from the hard drive and it's still firmly set in place. Any ideas how to release it?

I also tried pushing the clip and that cable is not coming out

ETA: I just got that other cable out, but still can't get my screwdriver in :(

There are a lot, but I have not tried them with K9.
IYPO (In your professional opinion) Which program/s would you recommend?

It looks like the release may be between that cable and the hard drive. If its a Dell computer the release will be blue.

If you send a broader picture I may be able to locate the release.

Don't have an opinion in this matter. (I wouldn't answer since I don't know. But since your referring to me I'd at least inform you that I don't know personally which of them are good.)
