If you go to settings>updates & security you'll see that it's downloading and installing updates
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

after going through the initial q/a and make sure you're very careful with those questions and settings, simply clicking through will open up your machine [indirectly] to big brother which is exactly what ms wants you to do but I digress...
How do I go back and do it carefully?

You can't go back, the best you can do is turned off EVERYTHING in the privacy settings and disable the service "connected user experience and telemetry"

Should I reset to factory settings and start all over?

Do you yourself have any problem with Microsoft having this data on you? Just because someone else has a problem with it does not mean it is bad. I - for instance - does not really care that they have it.

Not trying to convince you either way, but if you don't really care why the hassle?...

Try using this free ip scanner. I use it all the time and it's great. As long as you know the device name you'll see the ip from this. If you don't know the device name the router will probably not help either

What the make and model of the router?
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

https://www.google.com/search?q=whats+my+ip+address

That would give him:
1) his own ip address, seems like he's looking a different device
2) his public ip, i would imagine he needs the private one
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Do you have a phone plugged in?
You should be able to get the ip that way.

The Obi can tell you its IP address.  ***1
DHCP table in router is usually a tab in Status or LAN.  Router IP is usually either 10.0.0.138 or 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1).  You can check routers IP by running ipconfig in command prompt, and checking the Default Gateway address.
