Thank you so much again!!

I guess If I can get in I'll just try to move everything into Dropbox which should take care of that then I can try a clean install...
Move to Dropbox how? You'll need a normal OS (that is what I meant before) to be able to open Dropbox in the browser, the manufacturer recovery disk will not be a help for that.

KK. So I guess I misunderstood.

In which case I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this👇🏻...

What you'd want first is see if you can see the files on the main hard drive and if so try to copy it to some other device/drive.

Now that I have some direction I can google for more details.
Thanks so much!

You'll want to copy your files to an external hard drive.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

If I can copy them to an external HD, why can't I move them to the Dropbox folder?

Do you mean to take the HD out and copy them once it's removed?
Will I be able to access the data on the HD and copy it out by USB, but unable to sync to Dropbox because the Dropbox app won't be working...?

Since you cannot turn on and have fully functional your old Windows system the Dropbox folder on the hard drive is a dead folder and is not uploaded. Understood?

Therefore, either you copy to an external drive (can technically be done from a recovery disk with command prompt if you have the know-how), or you boot some sort of live OS (meaning an Operating System that runs off a flash drive, not your normal Windows) and open a browser and upload the stuff to Dropbox.

It's becoming clearer bit by bit :)

I'll google "live OS" etc and see what I can find.

Something else just occurred to me: if I take the SSD out of the laptop and connect it to a desktop by USB will I be able to access the files and extract the ones I need and then just put it back into the Laptop and reinstall Windows?

Yes. But you'll need to have (buy I assume) an adapter. Internally a hard drive does not use USB to connect.

I'll keep you posted.
Haven't had a chance to check yet, the desktop is at work, laptop is at home.
Thanks for checking in! :)

Worked like a charm thankfully!!
I did need to override the permissions issue on the SSD to be able to access the files, but google was my friend :)
Thank you so much everyone for your help!

Now I need to hope that resetting the laptop from the manufacturer's USB will give me back a functional laptop.

I still have no idea what caused it. So strange, it was functioning perfectly, so sudden.

I'd definitely recommend a hard drive diagnostics check (with some software that does this, and checks the SMART data). And also a chkdsk /r.

Thanks!!

Chkdsk returns hundreds of issues and then aborted due to an unspecified error, and when I ran CrystalDiskInfo and got the following report:

It is still under warranty from Samsung (it's an 850 EVO) guess I'll send it in...

I have a Windows computer. Is there a way to add Google Drive to the place where all the files are(File Explorer/My Computer/This PC whatever it's called)?

Thanks. I did that and it worked. At first I was following instructions from Google and it didn’t work. I guess it was outdated instructions.
