And yes, it still boots.
If it still boots, run the aforementioned program (as admin) and see what exactly feels the hard drive.

Thanks. This helped and I found what was taking up lots of space. Meanwhile I'd still like to create a windows 10 installation USB. I'm trying to run it again at the moment but don't have much hope. Any other ideas?

Why don't you have hope? How much space is empty now? It Highly likely that this is why it failed before.

If it still fails we'll see then.

Ok thanks!
There's about 60 GB free now.
At one point it actually told me I needed to free up 2 GB of space and I did. That's why I felt like the freeing up more wouldn't be the fix. Thanks for your help!

Can you check in disk management what's the partition type (GPT vs MBR) and format?

Also, for resetting Windows 10 there's a special tool, try that.

Anyone here with a lenovo G560 that can guide me through the bios steps that I can follow blindly to set the external display as the primary display?

Opening a laptop and and unplugging the screen cable will make any screen plugged in the default screen.

A bit off topic but I thought it’s better than starting a separate thread....I was locked out of my twitter account for “unusual activity”. I assume it was triggered by being very active yesterday. They wanted me to confirm my identity with a code sent via text, but despite repeated attempts I wasn’t getting code on my phone. Now I’m getting message that “You have exceeded the number of allowed attempts to verify your phone. Please try again later.” any suggestions?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

It is one of the currently very active ransomware viruses. See here for details: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/671473/stop-ransomware-promorad-promorad2-promok-readmetxt-support-topic/
