It is one of the currently very active ransomware viruses. See here for details: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/671473/stop-ransomware-promorad-promorad2-promok-readmetxt-support-topic/
Thanks.
I'm on mobile now so it's hard to really look into this.
After she ran malwarebytes the machine was running properly just couldn't use files then all of a sudden it went into automatic repair mode but said it couldn't be repaired.
"PC ran into problem and needs to restart"
System restore didnt work either....

Probably some system file got encrypted, or Malwarebytes corrupted something... It is extremely hard to give any guidance for an unbootable computer to a non-pro.

I might not be a pro but I am very tech savvy.
I was having problems helping her since I was mobile all day and couldn't really look into it.

I did have her boot into safe mode to download malwarebytes hoping that would fix it.

I'm talking about her being not a pro...

Does it still boot in Safe Mode?

The issue is unlikely to be the active virus (which is ransomware that encrypts files) but rather files already affected by it. Unlikely that an Antivirus can help.

What's strange is that this ransom has been there at least 10 days and didnt ask for money.
Last week her google drive all of a sudden got way over quota so we deleted basically everything to bring it back down.
I remember seeing promorad2 at the time but didnt think anything of it.

After we cleared it I only set her desktop to be backed up and not other files...

Is there a way to recover fully deleted items from google drive?

My computer is turning on. I hear the startup sounds and the screen is lighting up but it's black. Any ideas of how to fix it? Windows 7 pro if that helps.

Laptop or desktop?
Any connected peripherals?
If desktop, how many video outputs and which one are you using?
Is the mouse pointer visible on the black screen?

This was on a laptop. I did get it to turn on after unplugging it from the power adapter and taking out the battery. I did that a few times and then it finally turned on the right way. I'm just trying to figure out what happened and I'm concerned that I may need a new computer soon. Any ideas what might have caused it?

Should work.  Scary though, too cheap.

Currently using it for an old HDD, no issues.

I have an Acer Aspire 5 laptop.  Some of the keys stop working intermittently. p, u, t, j.  Restart sometimes helps. Other times have hitting the key repeatedly or hard it starts working.  Is this fixable?

Most keyboards have keys that can be pryed off gently. Check if there is dirt underneath, that is blocking the key from being fully depressed.

I don't think so. They feel like they are depressing just fine and when a key is acting up, prying it up and pushing the rubbery pad underneath doesn't seem to make a difference.

Also, when it's acting up, a bunch of keys don't work properly.  When they are working properly, they all are.

Any ideas? This keeps happening- turn the computer one and off 20 times before it turns on correctly.
