I have an XPS 13 laptop connected to a Dell S2415H monitor via a USB-C to HDMI adapter. I am not able to hear the sound from the monitor. I tried right-clicking on the sound icon in the tray menu, opening sound settings and choosing my monitor over my laptop as the output device. I also check that the volume control on the physical monitor is on. Still not hearing anything from monitor...any suggestions?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Do you have an HDMI port on the laptop you can try? Maybe the adapter doesn't support audio...?

Thanks for the response...One of the few drawbacks of the XPS 13 is that it only has USB C ports, so I am not able to try that. I was under the impression that the adapter should support sound but not 100%. I'm using the HooToo USB C Hub, which was recommended by WireCutter...

Hmm, item description says it supports audio! Do you have another monitor you can test it with?

From past similar experiences, you need a dedicated audio cable.

Lately all pictures I save from Chrome are in .jfif format - if you are having the same issue change the registry https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/6d8zli/saving_jpeg_files_as_jfif_automatically_which/

I was downloading Windows 10 to upgrade from Windows 7 as Windows 7 is being phased out. The first time around everything went smoothly until the screen became black and then someone touched something and the  download froze at 90%. To be clear the download didn't freeze, it actually downloaded but it was upgrading or updating and froze at 90%. I manually shut the computer and upon restart the computer uninstalled whatever it had installed. I started the process again and now it seems to have the same problem where my computer screen is black. Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Best is to reinstall a fresh copy of windows 10 and not to upgrade an existing windows 7.

The computer is only a backup.  Is there a way to properly protect it after w7 support expires?

Have a Toshiba laptop couple of years old lately getting black spots on screen (might be dead pixels) how do I stop it from growing? Can it be fixed?

If you right click on the volume icon in your taskbar and click Open Sound Settings, do you see the device under Input Devices?

I got it to work by going to
Control panel>
Hardware and sound>
Sound>
under "recording" tab I right-clicked and selected show disabled devices and show disconnected devices,
then I right-clicked on "microphone" and clicked "disable".

But now MIC works fine, and the speaker works fine as well but not during a phone call! the person will hear me, but I wont hear them, but when I play music it works just fine!

I see the problem.

On GV, the default setting for "speakers" (under audio settings) is "headphones-(UE BOOM 2 Stereo)"
If I change the speaker settings  to "communications-headset"  it works perfectly fine.

However I have to do this every time I make a phone call,
How do I change the default setting to communications-headset?
